Our History
Founded in 2003, Luskwood Creatures began as the original anthropomorphic avatar design group in Second Life.
In late 2007, we decided to expand our virtual product selection with real-life mascot costumes and fursuits for a short period of time. Though due to various real-life constraints, we no longer produce fursuits.
Luskwood now stands as the oldest furry community in Second Life, providing a non-judgemental space for people of all sorts to talk, game, and build friendships.
"It started with a couple of friends, a nearly blank canvas of landscape, and a wooden owl. Long before the custom avatars, or the vended avatars, Michi, Liam, and I found a few little plots of land just east of the original welcome area, tucked safely behind a small manicured ridge. We settled down there and started doing what everyone did in those days: chat away boundless hours while sitting around and build strange little things we found amusing and show them off to each other.
Slowly we grew that land by picking up neighboring pieces when we could afford them. Slowly we grew the community by having more folks sit down with us night after night, building their own strange little things and showing us. Arito notably started hanging out with us a bunch, and some of those strange little things he was making turned into full furry avatars, which rapidly exploded in popularity, and Liam pitched in, but it wasn’t anywhere near enough. In a bid of sheer desperation to keep up, we made some of these avatars be a bit more accessible, in a vending machine where anyone could get one any time they wanted at an affordable price and have full permission to customize it further themselves.
The crowds for those avatars would come by every night, and a fair number of the folks who were getting them would stick around and hang out with us, enjoying the company even more than they did the avatars they had come to buy. Over the following decades we did many cool and unforgettable things in Second Life, but the community itself is truly our greatest achievement, and it really makes me so proud to still see so many wonderful friends every time I log in and to have so many lasting RL bonds made here together."
